INEC to decide on 95 new political parties seeking registration on Wednesday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has assured that Edo governorship election will be conclusive.

He however said that a conclusive election will be possible if the voters are civil before, during and after the election.

According to him, once that is in place, there will not be reason for inconclusive poll.

“The commission had been preparing for the Edo governorship election since March this year. We have also deployed over 18,000 electoral staff and all the needed materials for the election. Everything was set until the police and the DSS advised that we should postpone it,” he said.

The commission maintained that its goal as it prepares for the rescheduled election is to ensure a free, fair and conclusive election. It added that its goal for a successful election in the state has been evident from how it has prepared for the election since February, when the date for the election was announced.

The chairman of the commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, who stated this on behalf of his boss, said that INEC had already carried out 12 out of the 14 activities that would lead to the conduct of the election.

INEC is said to have moved its personnel to Edo State in preparation for the election before Nigerian Police Force and Department of State Services (DSS) advised that it shift the election due to threat of attack by “insurgents” and “extremists.”
