Lamido paid for jobs that never existed, EFCC witness says

Former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido and two of his sons were yesterday (Tuesday) picked up by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and they are to be arraigned before a court in Kano on corruption charges today (Wednesday).

Officials of the commission confirmed that Lamido and his sons – Aminu and Mustapha were arrested in Abuja yesterday, and they are expected to answer charges on how they misappropriated billions of naira belonging to the state.

The trio would remain in EFCC custody in Kano after today. “We have perfected and made all necessary arrangements for their accommodation and feeding in Kano,” an EFCC official said.

Aminu and Mustapha were first arrested in November 2013 in Kano over N10bn fraud and flown to Abuja, but Lamido, who flew out of the country shortly before the swearing-in of his successor on May 29, reported at the Abuja head office of the EFCC on his return on June 15.

EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said Lamido was quizzed over his involvement in the award of contracts to companies which were connected to his family members
