My brother is not dead but in coma, Mike Asiwaju's brother says

The death of Lagos businessman, Mike Asiwaju has been confirmed by his elder brother Segun Akintola days after a certain Dapo Asiwaju denied his demise on Twitter.

According to Segun, the real name of the deceased who reportedly took his own life at a hotel in FESTAC, Lagos State, is Dare Akintola but he later adopted Asiwaju which is his company’s name, Asiwaju Royal Furniture.

Segun also refuted claims made by Asiwaju who said before he died that his mother had passed away due to rape claims levelled against him.

According to Segun, their ageing mother is alive but ill and has not been informed of her son’s death in order not to worsen her condition.

Segun also revealed that he was shocked when he heard about his brother’s death in the media.

“When I called his (Asiwaju’s) line, a policeman picked the call. He asked me to come to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Panti. On getting there, the policeman said my brother’s corpse had been deposited in the morgue. He took me and some family members to the morgue to check the corpse.”

According to Segun, his late brother was not a troublesome person.

“We saw each other last June at Alaba Market. He said he would soon go back to Abuja. He told me he had a house around Lekki but I did not know the place. He was running the Asiwaju Royal Furniture at Alaba before he travelled abroad. I also had a furniture shop in Alaba. His name is Dare Akintola. Asiwaju is his company’s name but I didn’t know where he got Michael from. He was 33 years old and he had a 10-year-old son.

“When I read what he wrote on Twitter, I was shocked. I was surprised he could be writing all those things. Our mother is alive, but she is sick. He was not a troublesome person. His only problem was that he hardly came home. The last time he saw mum was about five years ago. They only spoke on the phone and he sent money to her often. We are afraid to inform her about his death.”

A day after Asiwaju’s death became news, a certain Dapo took to his Twitter page to deny reports of his brother’s death saying people should stop spreading false information.

“My brother is not dead, he is in Coma. Y’all should please stop spreading False information. — Asiwaju (@Dapo_Asiwaju) wrote on his Twitter page.

Recall that CSP Chike Oti, the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, had earlier confirmed the suicide saying; “We are investigating a possible case of suicide. We were alerted that a young man died in his hotel room and the Commissioner of Police was informed. He directed that the body should be evacuated and that a team of detectives comprising men from the forensic unit and men from the homicide section should investigate the matter.

“The body was inspected and there was no visible mark of violence on the corpse. Two bottles of Sniper, which we reasonably believed he must have drunk, was recovered from the hotel room. One of the bottles had been emptied while the other one was still unopened. The man checked into the hotel with the name, Prince Moses. Preliminary investigation revealed that the man was the owner of a business known as Asiwaju Royal Furniture.
Asiwaju was found lifeless in his hotel room around 12am on January 13, 2019, after he took a poisonous substance suspected to be Sniper.

Close watchers say the businessman and father of one who has a huge followership on social media may have taken his life immediately after sharing a suicide note on his Twitter page days ago.

Asiwaju had expressed his intention to take his own life via his Twitter handle, @Asiwaju_limited, a day after he checked into the hotel.

“Goodbye I’ll die soon. (I) am gone,” he tweeted at 7.35pm on Saturday, January 12.

Before his death, Asiwaju had alleged that his former business partner, one Blessing, was behind the blackmail of several allegations of rape levelled against him.

Two women on social media had accused Asiwaju of raping them, but the now late businessman claimed they were actually his girlfriends who he met on social media platforms.

Asiwaju also went ahead to pictures of two his two girlfriends claiming they had fun together sometime in 2017 at a club, where he spent N500,000.
