The Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari has been granted the sum of €50 million to help the country in its ongoing fight against the spread of the deadly COVID-19 disease.

This was made known on Tuesday via a tweet by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina who informed that the sum was granted after President Buhari received in audience the European Union (EU) delegation at the Council Chambers, State House, Abuja.

While giving an update on the meeting, Adesina, said that the EU gave a €50 million grant to Nigeria to fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

He said; “EU gives Nigeria a grant of 50 million Euro to fight COVID-19.

”Head of EU delegation, Amb Ketil Karlsen, at the event commended President Buhari for ‘his powerful address to the nation last night,’ and for ‘the bold and necessary measures he has taken.”

The development comes after President Buhari extended his good wishes to the people of Chibok, Borno State, as the people held prayers and thanksgiving services to mark the sixth anniversary of the kidnapping of their daughters by Boko Haram terrorist group.

Over 150 of the girls were kidnapped on April 14, 2014. While many of them have since been freed, some of them have remained in the captivity of the terrorists.

However, in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, Buhari said he regretted that the current COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions on movement, made it impossible for any government delegation to be with the people of Chibok during the event.

He told the people that his administration was still mindful of their welfare and their concerns, especially regarding their daughters who are still missing.
