Ex-NNPC boss Yakubu withdraws N1bn suit against EFCC

Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s (NNPC’s) former Group Managing Director, Andrew Yakubu, has withdrawn his fundamental human rights enforcement suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

Yakubu, who had in the suit filed before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had sought for N1billion compensation for his alleged unlawful detention by the EFCC.

He instituted the suit sequel to his arrest on February 8, 2017 by the anti-graft agency and continued detention with respect to the sums of $9,772,800 and £74,000 found and recovered from his house in Kaduna on February 3.

However, when the case came up in court on Tuesday, Yakubu’s lawyer, Mr. Adeola Adedipe, told the judge that he had filed a notice of discontinuance of the suit on behalf of his client.

The lawyer said the reason to demand for the withdrawal of the suit was based on recent arraignment of his client and the subsequent bail granted him by the court.

Trial Justice Mohammed, who also presided over the arraignment of Yakubu on March 16, following Adedipe client’s motion struck out the suit.
