FA CUP: Moses benched as Batshuayi inspires Chelsea past Newcastle; City advance

Super Eagles forward, Victor Moses was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s 3-0 FA Cup victory against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Belgium striker, Michy Batshuayi netted twice to inspire the home side to the victory which earned them a spot in the 5th round of the competition.

Marcos Alonso added a second-half free-kick to the Belgian’s double to complete the scoreline.

“It was a good performance. It wasn’t easy because Newcastle prepared a very defensive game. When the draw faces you with another Premier League team it’s never easy,” Antonio Conte, the Blues’ boss, said after the win.

In another FA Cup encounter also on Sunday, Premier League leaders, Manchester City eased past Championship side, Cardiff City to reach the 5th round.

City, who are already in the final of the Carabao Cup and in the last-16 of the Champions League, kept hope of an unprecedented quadruple alive with the victory.

Pep Guardiola’s side got ahead early on when Kevin De Bruyne expertly struck a free-kick into the net, before Raheem Sterling headed in a second to seal the win.

Cardiff was later reduced to 10 men when Joe Bennett was sent off on 92 minutes.
