Fear of fresh explosion grips Aba residents

Published

Another explosion may soon rock communities in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, residents have said.

This is coming barely a week after a pipeline belonging to the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), exploded and roasted over 50 persons at Umuaduru and Umuimo villages in the local government.

Death toll in the explosion, according to sources, has risen to 170.

A witness, who is a resident of Umuaduru, said another part of the pipeline in the community had been spilling product suspected to be kerosene.

The resident said the people also observed the spillage at an isolated location of the pipeline route, near the Aba-Port Harcourt Highway.
