Governorship aspirant, Andy Uba, in alleged £1.9m debt mess

Senator Andy Uba, who has reportedly served notice of his intention to vie for the Anambra gubernatorial poll, is enmeshed in an alleged £1.9m debt mess.

Ripples Nigeria gathered Thursday that a private investigator, Victor Uwajeh, who is based in the United Kingdom has initiated a suit against the Senator over allegations of refusal to pay a debt of £1.9 million.

Uba recently jumped ship from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) claiming that the
ruling party was more positioned to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

In pursuing its claims Thursday, however, counsel to Uwajeh, Barrister Anthony Agbonlahor, told an FCT High Court sitting in Apo that Uba engaged but refused to pay his client professional fees for services rendered on an assignment in United Kingdom Border Agency and in the United States of America (US) pursuant to his two power of attorneys dated 28 December, 2012 .

Senator Uba was also accused of forging his West African Examination Council Certificate (WAEC) results as well as his Concordia University in Montreal, Canada and several other academic credentials.

Hearing, however, could not proceed Thursday as Uba did not file his statement of defence and trial judge, Justice Sylvester Origi had to adjourn the suit to April 27 to enable the defendant to file his statement of defence.
