Hounded by EFCC, ex-Enugu gov Chime dumps PDP for APC

Former Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime, has reportedly joined the league of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Others in the South East who have dumped the PDP include former Abia State Governor, Orji Kanu, ex-Senate President Ken Nnamani and Senator Andy Uba.

The news of his defection was disclosed on Thursday by the spokesman of the APC in the South-East, Mr. Hyacinth Ngwu.

Ngwu had taken to his Facebook timeline to announce the defection.

“Today, His Excellency Barr Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, immediate past governor of Enugu State joined APC,” Ngwu wrote.

While Chime is yet to officially announce his defection to the APC, some critics are already suspecting his decision to join the ruling party may not be unconnected with his indictment in a N450 million campaign funds.

The governor was indicted along two former chairmen of the PDP in the state, Chief Charles Egumgbe and Ikeje Asogwa among others.

Though, Chime had since distanced himself from any wrong doing in how the money was disbursed, and blamed Egumgbe and Rita Mba, who acted as chairman and secretary of the campaign committee, some critics however suspect he is defecting to APC to avoid any possible prosecution on the matter.

He was sometime ago quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in connection with the $115 million cash allegedly disbursed by Fidelity Bank on the instruction of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the re-election bid of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
