'If you begin war, we'll end it', Iranian General tells US

Major-General Qassem Suleimani, the head of Iran’s Quds Forces has added his voice to the war of words between Washington and Tehran by saying that if the US started a war Iran would “destroy all that you possess”.

Major-General Suleimani comments are coming after President Donald Trump threatened Iran earlier this week.

“You will start this war but we will be the ones to impose its end. Therefore, you have to be careful about insulting the Iranian people and the president of our republic,” Iranian news channel Al Alam quoted him as saying.

“You know our power in the region and our capabilities in asymmetric war. We will act and we will work.”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Trump had earlier engaged in a war of words over the imposition of an oil ban on Tehran.

Rouhani had warned US of a ‘mother of all wars’ saying America cannot prevent Tehran from exporting oil.

In his reply, Trump fired back at Rouhani warning him in a Twitter post in block letters “NEVER THREATEN THE US AGAIN”.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also blasted Iran’s religious leaders as “hypocritical holy men” whom he says are more interested in lining their pockets and spreading hardline views abroad than helping out their own cash-strapped citizens.
