INEC PROTEST: I have not received any invitation from the police –Melaye

The senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has said that he has not received any invitation from the Nigerian Police.

The police had earlier in a statement on Friday invited Senate President Bukola Saraki, and two other senators, Ben Murray Bruce and Melaye to appear before the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit.

The police had said the invitation was for them to explain their roles in the protest at the Abuja office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was carried out by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains over the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

Subsequently, the police had on Sunday in another statement by its Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, invited Melaye and Murray Bruce to appear before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police on Monday by 10am over the same issue.

In its latest invitation, the police had excluded Saraki.

But responding on the matter on Monday, Melaye posted on his Twitter handle, “I have not received any invitation from the police.”

Melaye is the Nigerian senator who some time ago allegedly jumped out of a moving police van taking him to a court in Kogi State over and alleged gunrunning offence and denial to honour police invitations.

The event had landed and confined him in a hospital in Abuja for weeks.
