ISIS claims St. Peterburg supermarket explosion

The bloody explosion that rocked a supermarket in the Russian city of St. Petersburg which injured no less than 13 people has been claimed by the dreaded international terror group Islamic State better known as ISIS.

Reports say the claim was made by ISIS on its Amaq news outlet but it gave no evidence of the attack which has been described as an “act of terror” by President Vladimir Putin.

The attack came as Putin signed a new law on Friday toughening sentences for terrorist recruitment following a mass enlistment of thousands of fighters from Russia and former Soviet states by ISIS.

Speaking at an awards ceremony for military officers, Putin called on security forces to fish out the perpetrators of the explosion which injured 13 people, six of whom remain in hospital.

“As you know, an act of terror took place in St Petersburg yesterday,” Putin said on Thursday.

According to Russia’s Federal Security Service, seven suspects linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group have been arrested in connection with the bombing.
