Supreme Court sacks Adamawa House of Reps member over forged credentials

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sacked Mustapha Usman, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member of the House of Representatives, representing Yola South/Yola North/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.

In a unanimous judgment on Tuesday, a five-man panel of the apex court, held, in the appeal marked: SC/790/2019 that Usman was not qualified to stand for an election, having not properly participated in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), scheme.

The judgement affirmed the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which held that the lawmaker had beside presenting doubtful credentials, also did not participate in the NYSC scheme.

Justice John Okoro, who read the unanimous judgement, ‎ordered that Jafar Suleiman Ribadu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who came second in the polls be issued a certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
