Madrid names street after Di Stefano

Real Madrid’s prolific goalscorer Alfredo Di Stefano, who spearheaded the club’s five European titles in the 1950s, is to have a street named in his honour, municipal authorities in the Spanish capital said on Thursday.

The Argentinian born centre-forward known as the ‘blond arrow’ in his heyday died in 2014 aged 88 and was honorary president of Real, whom he also coached, albeit with little success.

The street is situated near the Real Madrid training complex not far from the main city airport Barajas.

The naturalised Spaniard won the Ballon d’Or as European footballer of the year in 1957 and 1959 and scored 307 goals in 396 games for Real.
