May Nigeria never sink like PDP, Obasanjo prays

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday lamented that the fortunes of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has gone down terrible.

He also prayed that the country, Nigeria, would not go the same way as the once vibrant party he led to victory on many occasions in the past before he dropped out.

Obasanjo was referring to the crisis in the party which has resulted in two factions; one led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and another by Senator Ahmed Makarfi. Both factions have been in and out of several courts, and still won’t accept the judgements.

Obasanjo, a former chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital during the display of 40 African traditional drums to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Nigeria hosting the World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture in 1977 (FESTAC 77).

The event was also part of activities lined up to commemorate Obasanjo’s 80th birthday celebrations put together by the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation under the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

The former president narrated that the fortunes of the PDP started going down soon after himself and the former chairman of the party, Ahmadu Ali, left the party, adding, that at that time, the PDP controlled 30 out of the 36 states in the country.

“When he (Ali) was the Chairman of the PDP, we controlled 30 out of the 36 states. When Ahmadu Ali and I left, the fortune of the PDP sank. May the fortune of Nigeria never sink”, to which people in the hall shouted a thunderous ‘Amen’.

He said his relationship with Ali started when they both served under the government of Yakubu Gowon as ministers.

Obasanjo left the PDP, a party under which platform he governed Nigeria for eight years, in the heat of the 2015 general elections, by publicly tearing his membership card of the party.

Aremu olusegun obasanjo is a clown and a deity the Yorubas should fear. He doesn’t even know his age again. Apc is Nigeria ‘s favorite party now and it is destined to rule for 20 years. I urge all pdp members to migrate to apc for better Nigeria.

Aboki, your sense is not complete. So you want pdp to come corrupt apc, if apc knows what is best to them, they should never allow any of pdp members especially the great ones in their party.

Abig Amen to what Baba prayed. It was Jonathan and others greediness that ruined PDP. And that is the end of PDP, it can never spring up again. It’s a pity that PDP died on a pity day and there is pity to pity PDP.

Well structured poet. Mega party is the key to unseat apc again. For pdp, they cant do it alone again.

Obasanjo sounded like a prophet, but he’s the genesis of the problems of PDP and in fact, Nigeria! This country is in bad shape because of the way he handled the government corruptly when he was in power. He is not worthy of saying such prayer for Nigeria. He’s a problem to this country.

Obasanjo ended PDP, so many things went down behind the public sphere, what we all saw was the tearing of his membership card which was unwarranted and a slap to everyone in PDP, the party turned opposition party because he waged war against them, now he wants Nigerians to celebrate him and say a bigger AMEN to his prayer? If care isn’t taken, the prayer will turn to curse for Nigeria
