Militants blow up oil facility at stakeholders meeting

Suspected Niger Delta militants on Friday blew up oil facilities at Owhrode community, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The attack took place 20 kilometres from the venue of a one-day stakeholders’ meeting of the six South-South states of the Niger Delta.
The meeting said to be organised at the instance of Chief Edwin Clark, was meant to deliberate ways to bring a lasting solution to the ongoing militancy in the region. It has in attendance Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, traditional rulers and leaders of the various ethnic nationalities in the region.
Also expected as at the time of filing this report were Nyesom Wike, Seriake Dickson, Udom Emmanuel, Ben Ayade and Adams Oshiomhole, governors of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River Edo respectively.
Two pipelines operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), were said to be affected in the incident which occurred at about 2pm.
Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA), claiming to be a breakaway group of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), recently accused President Goodluck Jonathan, Wike and some other stakeholders in the region as sponsors of the Avengers, an allegation they have all denied, even the Avengers, denied knowledge of the group describing them as government mercenaries.
