Mosque collapse kills 15 in Somalia
A mosque under refurbishment packed with worshipers collapsed in the Somalian capital of Mogadishu killing at least 15 people and injuring 40 others.
Some victims are still believed to be trapped under the rubble after the collapse as hundreds of people gathered for prayers on Friday.
Though there are conflicting reports. pointing to the root cause of the building collapse as one account says that worshipers were at prayer, while others say more than 100 people were pouring a concrete foundation after prayers when the structure collapsed.
Local media confirms that the engineer contracted for the refurbishment project has been arrested on suspicion of negligence.
Privately-owned Radio Shabelle reports that most of the dead were construction workers while the state-owned Somali National News Agency said the incident took place in Dayniile district.
