N2.9bn fraud: Adamawa govt officials panic as EFCC whisks away gov’s CoS

Officials of the Adamawa State government have become jittery over the presence of operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the state.

The anti-graft officials had stormed the state and reportedly took away AbdurRahman Abba Jimeta, the Chief of Staff (CoS) to Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla, over allegations of involvement in a N2.88 billion fraud scheme.

Findings reveal that he is suspected to have received the money as his share of a scam for the renovation of Yola International hotel that was awarded by the previous administration of Murtala Nyako.

Jimeta also served as Chief of Staff to former Governor Murtala Nyako.

There are also reports that a property along Karewa road, opposite Bekaji Housing Estate allegedly belonging to him has been sealed off by EFCC.

It was gathered, that the airport contract was reviewed upward almost three times, and payments categorized into nine installments where the government then paid up to N2.664 billion and was left with the balance of N204 million.

However, the present administration is said to have again reviewed the contract upward.

Tough no authorized EFCC official was able to confirm the development, a source at the agency revealed that it was true, and that he was transported to Gombe for further questions.

However, a close associate of the Jimeta said that it was not true that he has been arrested, adding that it was all rumours peddled to discredit him.
