NASS Queries N2.7trn Power Sector Expenditure
The National Assembly (NASS)’yesterday queried the utilisation of N2.74 trillion invested in the nation’s power sector from 1999-2015, saying the sector depreciated increasingly, despite the huge investment.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara lamented that the power sector in spite of the enormous resources committed to it within the last 14 years has remained in a perilous state, delivering very disappointing results.
The National Assembly has however expressed readiness to support every drive towards increasing capacity of the nation’s power sector.
Saraki while giving the opening remarks at a two-day stakeholdersinteractive dialogue/workshop on the Nigerian power sector, said the legislature would continue to craft the right legislative instruments that will help deliver a new and more reliable power sector for the economy.
