'Next question please', EFCC chair Magu refuses to comment on Ganduje’s alleged bribe videos

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on Monday refused to answer questions bordering on bribery allegation against Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

To commemorate his third year in office, Magu had invited reporters for a press conference.

At the event, he took time to reel out what the EFCC under his leadership has achieved in the past three years, including a large number of convictions and recoveries.

When he was done, the reporters took turns to throw questions at him, to which he responded.

However, when one of them asked Magu to confirm if the anti-graft agency was investigating Ganduje following the widely publicised videos showing where he was allegedly receiving bribes from contractors, the EFCC boss simply said, “Next question please.”

A good number of Nigerians has continued to accuse President Muhammadu Buhari’s government of engaging in a lopsided graft war. Some say corruption fight is a mere witch-hunting of the opposition and perceived enemies of the government.

The EFCC has continued to be looked at by these Nigerians as the number one agency the Buhari administration is using to carry out the alleged witch-hunting.

The Kano State assembly is currently investigating the matter and only recently insisted on continuing the process after a court ruling ordering maintenance of status quo by all parties.
