An international non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in Nigeria; Management Sciences for Health (MSH); has developed a mobile application to ensure widespread access to the National Guidelines for HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care by healthcare professionals, people living with HIV, other patients and the general population.

Acting Country Representative of MSH, Olumide Elegbe said in Abuja, that the organization worked closely with the Federal Ministry of Health to launch the application in efforts to save lives and improve health of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people by closing the gap between knowledge and action in public health.

Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole had in March, formally launched the new National Guidelines for HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care, before MSH developed and unveiled the application as part of the 2017 World AIDS Day activities.

The Acting Country Rep stated that other key stakeholders including people living with HIV/AIDS, National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA), state governments and health facility service providers were actively engaged in the process of developing the application.

“The application provides a simple and user friendly interface allowing everyone the opportunity to navigate easily through the chapters of the Guidelines, use medical search terms, and share information between colleagues. It may be used offline, ensuring access by health care workers and service users even in hard to reach areas with poor internet coverage.

“The application is an initiative between the FMoH and MSH in increasing access to critical information to HIV patient care, placing this information now at the fingertips of our frontline healthcare workers in achieving our 90:90:90 UNAIDS goals by 2020,” Elegbe stated.

He explained that availing the app to people living with HIV/AIDS empowers them to be active participants in their own care, adding that the App is compatible with both IOS and Android devices and may be easily downloaded.
