NIBSS: 17.9m bank accounts opened in 2018

A total of 17.9 million new bank accounts were opened in the country in 2018, latest data obtained from the Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) shows.

According to New Telegraph’s analysis of NIBSS’ Industry Customer Bank Account data for December 2018, the number of accounts jumped from 100.2 million in December 2017 to 118.1million in December last year, representing 17.9 million or 17.9 percentage increase.

A breakdown of the NIBSS’ data shows that the number of new savings accounts opened as at December 2018 rose by 14.5 million or 19.5 per cent to 89.115 million from 74.6 million as at December 2017.
