Nigeria’s Etebo joins Stoke City on 5-year deal

Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has joined English Championship club Stoke after agreeing a five-year contract, the Club announced on Monday.

Etebo, who is a member of Nigeria’s World Cup, left Portuguese side Feirense for Stoke in a £6.35 million ($8.5 million).

Stoke, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, are hoping to win promotion back to the top flight next season under new boss Gary Rowett.

“#WelcomeEtebo Stoke City are delighted to announce the signing of Nigerian international Oghenekaro Peter Etebo on a five-year contract. The 22-year-old midfielder joins the Potters from Portuguese side Feirense for a fee of €7.2million,” the club tweeted on Monday.

Following 45 league appearances for Feirense, Etebo played 12 times in La Liga for Las Palmas last season.

“Happy to be a Potter! See you guys after the World Cup!” he wrote on Twitter few hours after completing the move.

The former Warri Wolves star has been capped 14 times by the national team and will be integral part of Gernot Rohr’s team as they kick off their World Cup campaign against Croatia this Saturday.

The Super Eagles will also face Iceland and Argentina in the group stage of the World Cup.
