PDP, APC top shots to resurrect SDP

Baring any change in plans, the Social Democratic party (SDP) may be resurrected as an alternative national party to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Information available to Ripples Nigeria indicates that politicians from both the PDP and APC may have already adopted SDP as a new platform in their quest to rebuild the country.

An insider source in the new formation said though SDP has nothing to do with ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo’s vision of an alternate political platform to drive reforms, majority of PDP and APC bigwigs are in talks to refloat the party.

The source said the decision to move into SDP was arrived at after what he said was an extensive consultation among members.

“After extensive research, consultations and consideration of our national challenges, it was resolved that Nigerians need to urgently build up another big party as an alternative to the existing big two.

“Social Democratic Party (SDP) was chosen as the ideological progressive national party that can be rapidly built to become the new ruling party”, our source said in an SMS.

Speculations over an alternative party to accommodate aggrieved members of PDP and APC who may lose out in the politicking process in the two major parties had been rife for sometime now.

It is expected that such moves will materialize as the 2019 elections draw nearer, and the parties pick the candidates for the various positions open for contest.

The SDP was the platform under which the late Chief MKO Abiola contested the 1993 presidential election which he is purported to have won.

However, the party has remained in the cooler since then, and has not recorded any victory any subsequent elections, as it has been sidelined by the political bigwigs, until now.
