BAYELSA GUBER: PDP downplays last minute defections from the party

A governorship aspirant in Bayelsa State, Joshua Maciver, who contested the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dumped the party.

Maciver, who only got seven of the 1,244 votes cast during the party’s Tuesday primaries, tendered his resignation letter as a member of the ruling party in the state, to Olodiama ward 2, ward 4 and Constituency 4 chairman of the party.

The aspirant, said to be a well-liked ex-militant leader from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state was the first to set up a campaign office along Isaac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa.

In his resignation letter dated September 4, Maciver cited personal reasons for his action.

Meanwhile, there are claims in some quarters that he resigned from PDP so that he can support the candidacy of his kinsman, Chief David Lyon, who won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the November 16 election.
