POLICE shut down Anambra Assembly complex

The Anambra state police command has announced the closure of the Anambra State House of Assembly (ANHA) over the lingering impeachment crisis rocking the house.

The house has been thrown into disarray following the impeachment of the speaker, Rita Maduagwu on Tuesday and a subsequent election of a new speaker, Ikem Uzoezie.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRU) in Anambra, SP Haruna Mohammed disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

He noted that the application to seal off the complex was contained in an official letter to the Commissioner of Police.

“The Anambra State Police Command wishes to inform the public that it has sealed off the Assembly Complex with effect from 6:00pm of Thursday 15th November, 2018 as a proactive measure to avert possible breakdown of law and order in the Assembly,” he said.

Members of the public have been advised to stay away from the complex until further notice while it solicited the co-operation of Anambra people in its commitment to provide adequate security in the state.

There were reports of heavy presence of policemen around the assembly complex on Thursday.
