After Samsung, S'Korean prosecutors summon chief of 3rd largest conglomerate over graft

Special prosecutors in South Korea have summoned SK Chairman Chey Tae-won for questioning in connection to the on-going investigation into an influence-peddling scandal that brought down President Park Geun-hye.

Confriming the development, a spokesman for the SK Group said Chey would be questioned but declined to comment further even as officials at the prosecutors’ office could not be reached immediately for comment about the summoning of SK Chairman.

The SK Group is South Korea’s third-largest conglomerate, with units in chemicals, telecoms and semiconductors.

Recall two weeks ago that special prosecutors formally announced charges against the de-facto Samsung chief, Lee Jae-yong along with four other company executives of the smartphone making company.

Jae-yong was indicted on multiple charges including bribery and embezzlement after authorities accused Samsung of giving donations to non-profit foundations operated by Choi Soon-sil, a friend of Ms Park, in exchange for government favours.
