Santos wants 6-months ban for Neymar

Published

on

Neymar’s former club Santos have asked FIFA to ban the Brazilian for six months over what they believe is a breach of the governing body’s disciplinary code, according to Globo Esporte.

Santos’ new president Modesto Roma has made the official plea arguing that Neymar contravened various regulations in article 62 of FIFA’s transfer code and acted in ‘bad faith’.

They are also demanding €55m (£40.6m) for the player for having, according to Santos, broken his contract with the club.

Barcelona paid Santos €17.1m for Neymar in 2013. But additional contracts – to pay the club more if he became a Balon d’Or finalist and for first rights of refusal on three Santos players as well as an agreement to play a pre-season friendly against them in 2013 – took the final total of money passed between the two clubs to just over €25m.

Neymar won three league titles, a Brazilian Cup and a Copa Libertadores at Santos but the messy nature of his departure has stained his legacy.

But Santos have already been unsuccessful in their attempt to seek recompense from the company run by Neymar’s father, Neymar Sport & Marketing, and Barcelona are confident Santos’ latest appeal will not be taken seriously by the game’s governing body.
