Man United wanted me in summer, Neymar reveals

Barcelona superstar Neymar has revealed he held talks with Manchester United over the summer but insists he was not made an offer from the English club, despite hearing that bids had been submitted by the Premier League outfit

It was reported towards the end of the summer transfer window – by Brazilian publication Globo Esporte – that United had tabled a world-record £140 million bid for the skilful forward, but this offer was rejected by the Catalan giants.

Although the report sounded far-fetched at the time, Neymar claims Manchester United did contact him over a potential shock move to Old Trafford.

“We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete,” the Brazil international was quoted as telling ESPN by Barcelona-based newspaper Sport. “I heard that there were offers, but none made it to me.”

It was The Sun who exclusively revealed that United had made a “discreet approach” to the reigning European champions for Neymar, with the Red Devils’ executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward making the audacious bid to sign the global star.
