SOUTH KOREA: 41 feared dead, dozens injured in hospital fire

Tragedy struck at a hospital in Miryang, South Korea when an outbreak of fire claimed the lives of 41 people and injured a dozen others.

According to Fire chief Choi Man-woo who spoke to newsmen, the cause of the deadly fire is still unknown.

“The victims came both from the hospital and the nursing home. Some died on their way to another hospital.”

Firefighters told the Yonhap news agency that the victims appeared to have died from smoke inhalation.

Witnesses say the fire which started in the emergency room at Sejong Hospital, which specialises in cardiology also forced the evacuation of around 200 patients inside the building and adjoining nursing home at the time.
