Three men were on Wednesday sentenced to 40 years’ imprisonment each by an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan for illegal possession of arms.

The convicts, Femi Olasupo, Musbau Oloyede and Ahmed Akinsanya were earlier arrested in March 2011 by men of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad SARS after a report came in from one of the suspects’ neighbours who claimed that they were often terrorized and robbed by the men.

The presiding judge, Justice Adegboye Gbolagunte found them guilty of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, as well as illegal possession of firearms.

He however sentenced them to 20 years on a count of conspiracy and 20 years on two counts of illegal possession of firearms.

Recall that the Oyo State Police Command had arrested not less than 21 suspected criminals and armed robbers terrorising residents of Ibadan and other towns in the state between January and March.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu, who confirmed the series of arrest to journalists six weeks ago assured the people of the state of safety and urged them to be vigilant and provide useful information that would enable the police to serve them better.
