An outbreak of a yet-to-be identified ailment has hit some agrarian communities in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State.

Igieduma, Ehor and other neighbouring villages are reportedly affected.

The PUNCH correspondent gathered that no fewer than two persons, including a man in his 70s, died in Igieduma village as a result of the strange ailment.

A source in Igieduma, who did not want to be named, stated that among the symptoms exhibited by the victims were high fever, stomach pains, vomiting and nose bleeding.

The source said that many in the village were now avoiding shaking hands for fear of contracting the ailment through handshake.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr David Osifo, confirmed the outbreak of the ailment to The PUNCH correspondent in a text message.
