U.S, British nationals on alert over threat against Westerners in Beijing

Published

Foreign nationals in Beijing especially those of British and American origin have been warned to be extra cautious especially when visiting the Sanlitun district.

Sanlitun is home to a popular open-plan mall that boasts high-end brands like Mango, Reiss, and Lacoste, and some of Beijing’s best Western dining.

The British, U.S. and French embassies in China say they have received information of possible threats against Westerners visiting the popular shopping district in Beijing around Christmas.

The Australian embassy may soon follow suit following the information may prove helpful in saving lives and valuable property.

Also claiming familiar with the reports, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei said; “Relevant Chinese departments have always attached great importance to social security work, and spared no effort in protecting the safety of Chinese citizens and foreign institutes and their staff in China.”

It could be recalled that a woman was stabbed to death in broad day light last August by a sword-wielding assailant who also injured a French man “without cause or reason” according to Beijing police.
