Why UK govt may not extradite Diezani now -Investigation

The extradition of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diexani Alison-Madueke, from the United Kingdom (UK), may not happen anytime soon, Sunday Telegraph’s investigation has revealed. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating the former super-powerful Minister, over allegations bordering on money laundering to the tune of $115 million.

Incidentally, the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the UK is also investigating Alison-Madueke, on alleged money laundering offences.

The EFCC, on behalf of the Federal Government, has made efforts aimed at extraditing the former minister from London, where she has been since 2015.

But, Sunday Telegraph’s investigation revealed that the UK government intended to conclude its investigation and possible prosecution, before favourable consideration would be given to the extradition request.

A senior lawyer, who spoke in confidence with New Telegraph correspondent, said the UK authorities were not disposed to extraditing Alison-Madueke, considering that they were still investigating her.
