18-yr-old arrested in connection with London tube explosion

A major breakthrough has been made by British cops in the manhunt for suspects involved in the explosion which occurred at a tube in the south-west of London that injured no less than 29 people.

Reports say an 18-year-old man was arrested by Kent police in the port of Dover (a major ferry port for travel between Britain and France) on the English Channel on Saturday and he is currently being questioned under the Terrorism Act.

“We have made a significant arrest in our investigation this morning,” Deputy Assistant Police Commissioner Neil Basu said but he warned that the investigation was ongoing and the threat level remains at “critical,” meaning a government task force that includes the security services believes another attack is imminent.

The arrest of the 18-year-old is coming hours after UK authorities increased the terror threat to “critical”- its highest level after the London Underground blast that injured more than two dozen people.

Theresa May, the UK prime minister said the threat was now critical, meaning an attack is expected imminently.

Mrs May said: “The public will see more armed police on the transport network and on our streets, providing extra protection.

“This is a proportionate and sensible step which will provide extra reassurance and protection while the investigation progresses.”

The UK has witnessed a series of attacks this year, with the bombing of a concert in Manchester in May, a stabbing spree around the London Bridge area in June and a March attack in which a man drove a car into crowds on Westminster Bridge.
