2019: Why Tinubu is going for third term

Published

There are indications that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, adopted the direct primaries for the party’s ticket, especially in Lagos for next year’s general elections at all levels to forestall crisis.

Sources close to the Leader confided in Sunday telegraph that he did not want further crisis in the party and had to adopt the direct primaries to starve off the pressure that usually attends such when it is time to elect the party’s flag bearers in an election year.

“There is no better time than now that Asiwaju has come under pressure. You know since 1999, no law maker, especially those of the National Assembly, does more than two terms. Now, his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, who represents Lagos Central, has done two terms. So also is Senator Gbenga Ashafa from the Lagos East. If he gives his wife, he has no reason to refuse Ashafa,” said a source who spoke to one of our correspondents in confidence.

Also, unconfirmed reports have it that out-going Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, is interested in the Lagos West Senatorial ticket.
