ABIA GUBER: Police deny working for any candidate

Unconfirmed reports making the rounds in Abia State that the police is working for a preferred candidate in the state has been denied by the Nigeria Police Force.

According to Etim Ene Okon, the Abia state Commissioner of Police, the speculation is not true as the police has no preferred candidate or working with any candidates for Saturday’s governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the state.

The state CP who revealed that much in a radio interview also informed that an order had been given for the withdrawal of police officers attached to candidates and politicians.

His words, “We do not have any favoured candidate. Our job is to ensure peaceful environment for all to cast their votes during the polls.”

“There was an order to the effect that police officers attached to VIP’s should be withdrawn. Security aides are not expected to accompany them to the polling booths with arms and uniforms.

The CP also used the opportunity to assure the electorate in the state that the police will be out to ensure that a conducive and secured environment is provided to all eligible Abia electorate to exercise their right to vote.

“I want to assure every Abian that security is guaranteed. The peoples might supersede every other things. In election, the people’s might is in the ballot.

“And we are totally out to ensure that conducive and secured environment is provided to all eligible Abia electorate to exercise their franchise. “We have put machineries in place. We will make sure the safety of the citizens are guaranteed.
