ANAMBRA 2017: Nwoye beats Sen Uba, 10 others to emerge APC candidate

A member of the House of Representatives, Tony Nwoye has beat Senator Andy Uba, the national auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) George Moghalu, as well as nine other contestants to emerge the party’s candidate for the November 18 election in the state.

The election was reportedly very transparent and peaceful.

Nwoye, A 42-year medical doctor and a former NANS president, garnered a total number of 2,146 votes to defeat his nearest rival, Senator Uba who got 931 votes.

Announcing the results of the election on Sunday, the Chief Returning Officer, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, said that Moghalu polled 525 votes, Bart Nwibe, 414 and John-Bosco Onunkwo 85 votes.

Other results as announced by Shettima had Madu Nonso scoring 21 votes, Nwike Patrick, 20; Obidigbo Chike, 22, and Okonkwo Donatus, 10.

The number of delegates who participated in the election were 5,430 from the 21 local government areas of the state.

Nwoye, the APC governorship candidate will have to run against the incumbent governor of the state Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Osita Chidoka of the United Progressive Party (UPP) and whoever emerges the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate on August 29 among other candidates from other political parties.

The APC candidate was PDP candidate in the 2013 governorship election in Anambra State. He came second to Obiano in that election.

Currently, Nwoye is the member representing Anambra East/Anambra West constituency at the House of Representatives.
