APC fires back at Secondus, says PDP seeking relevance after election loss

The comments made by the National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, on the spate of insecurity in Nigeria has been faulted by the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Reacting to the comments made by Secondus, APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said it is an attempt by the main opposition party to seek relevance following its loss at the last general election.

“It is just an attempt by the PDP to find a way back to the front page of newspapers and to be relevant in the news,” he said on Friday during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics on Friday.

The APC spokesman added, “It would have been unnecessary for any response at all to come from us as the ruling party but I suspect that the national chairman of the PDP may have stumbled on one of the statements they wrote pre-election.

“Because it sounded more like some of those campaign materials that were not used or that have been used repeatedly; for which the voters passed a verdict in the last election.”

Secondus who had earlier addressed a press conference in Abuja had declared that there is no government in Nigeria and among other things, criticized the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration’s approach to handling security issues in the country.

While addressing newsmen, Secondus questioned the existence of a government in the country, stating that Buhari’s incompetence in the handling of governance is taking a huge toll on the nation.

The PDP chair noted that the security situation in the country has become continued source of concern among prominent Nigerians, including clerics and monarchs.

He therefore urged the President to seek quality advice on the security challenges.
