Avalanche of defections as Gov Ahmed, APC spokesman dump party

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, and the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in that state, Agbo Terkula have both dumped the party.

Both men announced their decision to join the Senate President Bukola Saraki who earlier announced his defection to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor on his part, announced his defection from APC almost the same time the former governor of the state and Senate President, Bukola Saraki, also made his known on his Twitter handle.

The governor said in a statement by his media aide, Muyideen Akorede, “Following due consultations with the people and in response to calls by major stakeholder groups in the state, Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed today defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), having realized that the All Progressive Congress (APC) can longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of his people.”

The governor’s dumping of the APC did not come as a surprise as he had last week hinted on leaving the ruling party.

Governor Ahmed in a short statement by Muyideen Akorede his media aide, said he decided to dump the APC after much consultations with the people of his state.

According to him, “Following due consultations with the people and in response to calls by major stakeholder groups in the state, Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed today defected to the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), having realized that the All Progressive Congress (APC) can no longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of his people,” the statement said.

There have been a gale of defections from APC recently, by aggrieved members of the party, who were members of the new PDP block of the APC.

The group had earlier formed the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) as a faction of the APC before later joining the PDP and 37 other parties to form an alliance, Coalition of Unity Political Parties (CUPP).
