BIAFRA: Ben Nwabueze defends IPOB, Kanu, gives conditions to drop agitations

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, has promised to withdraw agitation for Biafra should the Federal Government accept to restructure the county where each federating unit will be allowed to govern itself.

Professor Ben Nwabueze, a renowned constitutional lawyer and chairman, Leaders of Thought South of Nigeria, stated this on behalf of the IPOB leader at a press conference organised by Project Nigeria movement in Lagos on Thursday.

He said, “Nnamdi Kanu, who is being castigated for calling for self-determination, has authorised me to say that if restructuring is in progress along the line Leaders of Thought are canvassing, that he would plead with his members and withdraw the agitation for Biafra.

“I want to say here that anyone opposing restructuring Nigeria to a position where each federating unit would be allowed to control its affairs in a one Nigeria is the one seeking to break Nigeria and not Nnamdi Kanu.

“If they refuse to restructure Nigeria as so stated then there will be trouble and the trouble will not be caused by Nnamdi Kanu.”

Nwabueze had earlier at the conference released a 22-page paper containing the position of the Leaders of Thought on the agitating issue of restructuring.

In a statement underlying its position, the group said, “Negotiated restructuring implemented through a new constitution is the best assurance to for the realisation of our desire for one Nigeria.

“In our circumstances as a country, with a vast expanse of territory, comprising a great diversity of ethnic nationalities with divergent interest and outlooks, it seems generally agreed that a federal system, truly so called, is the system appropriate to our situation.

“We therefore conceive restructuring or re-establishment of the kind of federalism that existed under the 1960/1963 constitutions. That is the central object or purpose of restructuring.”

According to the Leaders of Thought South, the way forward for Nigeria is for the people “in exercise of power inherent in them as a sovereign people, to make, through a referendum, a new constitution, consisting a new political order.”

It added that the process must be led by a president, “as the elected leader of the people imbued by an ardour for change.”

Good of you, Johnson, when we all come together as one, Nigeria will be a leading light. I am happy you have died down this strong passion for Biafra state because that has been your favorite songs on this platform. Masha Allah for you

The only hope for Nigeria is restructuring. Kanu stated everything and we’re not going back. The federal government of Nigeria should restructure the country now or we separate

This restructuring of a thing isn’t even about the Biafra agitators again, it is what almost all Nigerians want. APC government should be reasonable and listen to the one voice of the masses, after all it will be of greater benefit for the country

If Kanu truly means business, he should write to the National Assembly requesting for restructuring. There’s nothing Buhari can say about restructuring since the National Assembly rule it out already.
