Budget crisis: Buhari not to blame, says  Gbajabiamila

The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, has absolved President Muhamadu Buhari of any blame arising from the inconsistencies in the 2016 budget.

The lawmaker, who made the assertion while receiving leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students in his office in Abuja at the weekend, said instead, the blame should be put squarely at the doors of the civil servants.

“The job was done by civil servants, it’s always been done by civil servants. The president does not sit in a ministry, he doesn’t know what’s going on in a ministry, or what they need or do not need.”

While admitting that as the president, the buck stops at his desk, Gbajabiamila revealed that it was President Buhari who first drew the attention of Nigerians to the issues in the budget.

“Don’t forget that the President was the first to raise the alarm, that it looks like there is a budget mafia,” he said.

This man should not let me discard the respect I have for him o. Now, that the budget is scandalous and has raised public outcry, we suddenly hear that it has always been done by civil servants. If the budget was public commendation instead of this present public condemnation, would we be reminded of the role of civil servants in budget drafting? Was the budget handed over to NASS by Perm Secs? Abeg, these APC people should tell us something else.
