Budget: Reps walk-out NTI DG

The drama and intrigues that has dominated the ongoing 2016 budget defence at the National Assembly by Ministries, Departments and agencies, MDAs, continued on Friday, as the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education, walked-out the Dirctor General of the Nigerian Teachers Institute, Mr. Aminu Ladan Sarahu over what was termed poor presentation of the institute’s 2016 budget proposal.

The committee, under the leadership of Hon. Zakari Mohammed, APC, Baruten/ Kaima Federal Constituency, ordered Sarahu to go back home and do a proper budget to be presented to the committee in two weeks.

Sarahu had drawn the wrath of the lawmakers when he complained that the NTI was tagged basic education, preventing it from accessing funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). According to him, with this development, the institute was denied the much needed funds to make it more functional.

This however angered the committee who accused the NTI boss of being biased like an unprepared chief executive. He was subsequently asked to explain the budget proposal line by line, adding that they could not make any sense out of the proposal.

The lawmakers later adjourned sine die after Zakari Mohammed asked Saharu to leave so they could attend to other important legislative engagements.
