Labour, PPP withdraw petitions against Wike's reelection

The Rivers State governor, Nyesome Wike, has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari is refusing to sign the Electoral Bill because he (Buhari) wants to manipulate the 2019 electoral process.

He also claimed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is unwilling to conduct a free, fair and credible polls.

Wike, spoke during a live interview session (Sunrise) on Channels TV on Wednesday.

Wike referred to Ogun State where the Segun Adebutu faction was recognised by the court as the governorship candidate of the PDP while it disregarded the list by Buruju Kashamu faction.

Wike said INEC wrote to the PDP on its readiness to go with the court order.

He explained that the electoral umpire was bias in handling the case of the court ruling that cancelled all APC candidates in Rivers State.

He said, “INEC immediately wrote to PDP that they were going to comply with the judgement of the court. Look at how they played the game.

“Same thing has happened in Rivers. The court has nullified the primaries of APC and one of the factions wrote to INEC that the Judge has nullified the list by another faction . They told INEC don’t take their list but we have ours.”

“We expect INEC as an unbiased umpire, having done same with PDP in Ogun State, should also have written to the APC they they will comply with the judgement. Rather they didn’t do that. What they did was notifying them of the judgement.”

The governor said its a responsibility on INEC to exhibit sincerity in the election.
