China frees Swedish rights activist

Authorities in China have released and deported Swedish rights activists Peter Dahlin who was made to admit his wrongdoing on Chinese TV.

35 year-old Dahlin was detained on charges of damaging national security in January after a crackdown on human rights lawyers and activists.

While making his confession on TV, http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-35406911“target = “_blank”> Dahlin admitted to breaking Chinese law through his organisation’s support of local Chinese rights lawyers.

Officials of the Swedish embassy also confirmed that Dahlin has departed China but gave no other details.
