Court sets date to rule on Maina’s bail application, as ex-pension chief claims ill-health

The Federal High Court, Abuja, said on Tuesday it would deliver ruling on the bail application filed by the former Chairman of defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, on November 7.

Justice Okon Abang fixed the date, after taking arguments from the defence and prosecution counsel.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Maina on a 12- count charge of money laundering, operating fictitious bank accounts and fraud.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Meanwhile, the trial of Maina and his son, was stalled on Tuesday, due to his ill-health

A medical letter stating the reasons the ex-pension task force chief could not appear in court, was brought to Justice Abang by an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Services.

The judge ordered the Deputy Comptroller- General in charge of Medical and Welfare of the Nigerian Correctional Services to examine Maina, and present the medical report to the court in the next adjourned date.
