A few days after he officially dumped the Wll Progressives Congress (APC) the Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom is under threat of impeachment.

Eight lawmakers of the Benue State House of Assembly on Monday served an impeachment notice on the governor.

This is also coming a few days after police barred the lawmakers from the House of Assembly premises following crisis involving different factions of the state legislative arms.

However, on Monday, while the police allowed the eight lawmakers to gain access, and sit at the Assembly premises, they barred anyone else from entering the premises.

Ortom’s spokesman, Tahav Agerzua, who confirmed the development, said the lawmakers took over the Assembly complex to sit and pass the impeachment notice while the police blocked further access.

As at the time of this report, a detachment of heavily armed policemen had shutdown the State House of Assembly, blocking the entrance to the complex, and denying even workers access.

Meanwhile, some youths in the early hours of the day, blocked the Benue Assembly complex over what they claimed was plots by some politicians loyal to the APC-led Federal government to impeach Governor Ortom who has dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It would be recalled that Governor Ortom had recently dumped the APC for PDP In a move he said was to protect the interest of his people.

This came after efforts to reconcile him with a former governor of the state, and a serving senator, George Akume proved abortive.
