Despite ban, Falz's 'This is Nigeria' video surpasses 15m views on YouTube

Despite the controversy generated by its release and its eventual ban by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Falz’s video ‘This is Nigeria’ has surpassed 15 million views on YouTube.

The ban appears to have done little to wane the popularity of the video as at the time of filing in this report, the clip had garnered exactly 15,141,548 views on the social media platform.

In a letter signed by Igomu Onoja, one of NBC’s zonal directors, in the month of August, the agency banned the song branding a part of it as “vulgar” and declaring the entire work “unfit for broadcast”.

NBC’s ban was also followed by a threat by the Muslims Rights Concern, MURIC, to sue the rapper as they are aggrieved by his trending “This is Nigeria” video.

It could also be recalled that the rapper’s father, Femi Falana(SAN) at the time dared MURIC to take his son to court over the controversial song.

Falana said in as much as freedom of speech is constitutionally guaranteed in the country, nobody has the right to threaten another person.

According to him, the video in question contains a lot of messages and desired to be encouraged by anybody who has the interest of this country at heart.
