Duterte follows in Putin's footsteps, says Philippines may also exit ICC

Citing criticism from Western nations for a rash of killings unleashed by his war on drugs, President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte has revealed that his country might follow Russia’s step to withdraw from the International Criminal Court.

Duterte made the comments ahead of his departure for Lima to attend an Asia-Pacific summit.

Duterte also railed against the United States saying that if Russia and China were to create a “new order” then the Philippines would be the first to join it.

With Duterte’s disturbing declaration, Philippines now joins a growing list of disgruntled countries such as Russia, Gambia, Burundi and South Africa who have all severed ties with the court which rules on grave charges such as genocide and crimes against humanity.
