A group of youths in Etsako West local government area of Edo State have been granted their wish to see the council chairman, Hassa Kadiri removed from office due to his ill health, but probably not in the way they had hoped.

The council boss died about 24 hours after the youths carried out their protest at the council headquarters

The youths were said to have stormed the council secretariat with placards and disrupted activities, alleging that the ill health of the late council boss was slowing down development of the area.

Some of the protesters who were alleged to be students of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, were arrested by the police while others escaped.

The presence of the school’s Students Union Government (SUG) official vehicle has led to the querying of the president, Sani Abdulqadiri as the public relation officer of the institution, Oshiobugie Mustapha, said the school was on holiday and that any student caught protesting should be prosecuted.

According to him, “The school is on holidays. We are resuming on the 24th of May. If the vehicle belonging to SUG was found at the scene of the protest, he should explain how the vehicle got there.”

The late Kadiri was aged 54 and died of an undisclosed ailment.
